NFR Strengthens Cleanliness, Sanitation and Public Participation under Swachhata Hi Sewa

 Guwahati, 21^st September, 2026:

As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Sewa - 2026 campaign, being observed from 17th September to 2^nd October 2026, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is undertaking focused cleanliness, sanitation, environmental awareness and public welfare initiatives across various railway stations, establishments and educational institutions. The activities are witnessing active participation from railway officials, Safai Mitras, students, Scouts & Guides and passengers, reinforcing the spirit of collective responsibility.

 

A key focus of the campaign is environmental cleanliness and protection of water bodies. Members of the N. F. Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides are actively participating in River Bank Cleaning Drives, including along the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The volunteers are helping maintain cleaner riverbank areas while spreading awareness about protecting water bodies and public spaces. Focused attention is also being given to identified Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across various railway stations. Safai Mitras are undertaking drives at approach roads, track-side areas and other identified locations to maintain hygienic surroundings.

 

Another important focus area is the maintenance of drinking water facilities and cleaning of water tanks at various railway stations and railway establishments. Regular cleaning and maintenance of water tanks are being undertaken as part of sanitation measures, while drinking water arrangements are being maintained for the convenience of passengers, railway staff and other users.

 

Under the “Swachh Paathshala” initiative, awareness programmes are being organised at various railway schools to sensitise students on cleanliness, personal hygiene, sanitation, waste segregation and responsible waste disposal. Art competitions and quizzes on Swachhata and Jal Sanchay are also being conducted to promote awareness through interactive activities. Swachhata Pledges are being administered at various railway stations with the participation of railway officials, Safai Mitras and passengers. Similar sanitation activities are being undertaken across railway schools, colonies, hospitals and other railway premises to promote hygienic surroundings and responsible practices.

 

Through these concerted initiatives, NFR is further strengthening the Swachhata Hi Sewa 2026 campaign by promoting environmental responsibility, public welfare and community participation. The initiatives are creating greater awareness about hygiene, waste management and water conservation, while encouraging people to adopt cleanliness as a regular practice. The active participation of railway employees, passengers, students and local communities is contributing towards healthier surroundings and lasting positive change in society.
