Dibrugarh Workshop Strengthens Maintenance Capacity with Improved POH Outturn and Safety Initiatives

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved improved Periodical Overhauling (POH) outturn of coaches and wagons at Dibrugarh Workshop under Tinsukia Division, against the prescribed targets. The workshop has also undertaken several initiatives to enhance maintenance capacity, workplace safety and sustainable railway operations.

The workshop is undertaking infrastructure augmentation works for refurbishment of LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches and enhancement of POH capacity. Its maintenance activities include detailed examination of coach body components, undergear and other critical parts to ensure structural integrity, safety and operational fitness. The workshop is also carrying out Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) activities for coaches and goods wagons. As part of workplace safety initiatives, two Pro Air Welding Helmets equipped with Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) systems have been provided to staff engaged in prolonged hot-work activities at Dibrugarh Workshop. The initiative is aimed at enhancing respiratory protection and improving comfort and working conditions for personnel involved in such activities.

 

The workshop has also taken a green energy initiative by installing solar modules recovered from a condemned Camp Coach on the rooftop of the new Canteen Building. The solar power generated is being utilised for charging battery-operated platform trucks, promoting the use of renewable energy and contributing towards reduction of the workshop’s carbon footprint.

General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, recently visited Dibrugarh Workshop and conducted a detailed inspection of various sections of the workshop. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of ongoing works and assessed the maintenance activities, including POH and IOH of coaches and goods wagons. He interacted with officials and staff and emphasised adherence to high standards of safety, quality and efficiency, while ensuring timely maintenance and availability of fit rolling stock. The General Manager was accompanied by senior officials from NFR Headquarters, Divisional Railway Manager, Tinsukia Division and other divisional officers during the inspection

 

During the inspection, the General Manager reviewed the progress of infrastructure augmentation and ongoing works at the workshop, emphasising timely completion with due focus on safety and quality. He subsequently inspected various railway stations under Tinsukia Division, reviewing passenger amenities, station infrastructure and cleanliness and stressed the need for continuous improvement in passenger facilities and efficient maintenance of railway assets.
