Gauhati University Observes Swachhata Pakhwada
Guwahati, 15 July 2026: Gauhati University NSS Cell and Red Ribbon Club observed Swachhata Pakhwada on 14 July 2026 with great enthusiasm under the aegis of Surujmukhi and NRL. The programme aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene, environmental sustainability, and community participation among students and volunteers. The programme was graced by Prof. Utpal Sarma, Registrar, Gauhati University as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Sarma emphasized that cleanliness is not merely a personal responsibility but a collective social commitment. He encouraged students and NSS volunteers to actively contribute towards maintaining a clean and healthy campus and to inspire society through their exemplary actions.
Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Secretary, University Classes, PC, NSS, Gauhati University welcomed the guests and participants & highlighted the significant role of NSS volunteers in creating awareness on sanitation, waste management, and environmental conservation. He urged the volunteers to extend the message of cleanliness beyond the university campus by engaging with local communities through sustained awareness campaigns and voluntary service.
Mr. Hemanta Dutta, Secretary, Surujmukhi and Pallav Hazarika, Assistant Director(YS), Assam State AIDS control society also spoke about the importance of community participation in maintaining cleanliness and preserving the environment. As part of the observance, NSS volunteers and Red Ribbon Club members undertook a cleanliness drive within the university campus, cleaned public spaces, and conducted an awareness campaign highlighting proper waste disposal, plastic-free practices, and the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
