World Bicycle Day 2026 Celebrated at Gauhati University


Guwahati, 3rd June:  On the occasion of World Bicycle Day 2026, Gauhati University, in association with ESAF Foundation and the Gauhati University NSS Cell, organized a Bicycle Rally on 3 June 2026 to promote sustainable transportation, environmental conservation, healthy living, and community engagement. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, NSS volunteers, faculty members, cyclists from Guwahati. 

The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of cycling as an eco-friendly, affordable, and healthy mode of transport while encouraging people to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles. The Bicycle Rally was formally flagged off by Prof. Utpal Sarma, Registrar, Gauhati University, in the presence of Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, DSW-cum-Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Gauhati University, and Mr. Kaushik Guha, Advisor, Assam Cycle Association, Gunjan Deka, President, PGSU, GU Addressing the participants, Prof. Utpal Sarma highlighted the significance of cycling in reducing carbon emissions, improving public health, and contributing to a cleaner and greener environment. 

He appreciated the collaborative efforts of ESAF Foundation and the NSS Cell in organizing such a meaningful initiative. Dr Kakati emphasized the role of youth in promoting sustainable development and encouraged students to adopt cycling as part of their daily routine. He noted that such activities align with the objectives of the National Service Scheme in fostering responsible citizenship and community service. 

The event concluded successfully with participants reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability, fitness, and responsible transportation practices. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for making the celebration of World Bicycle Day 2026 a success with more than 70 participants.
