Kamrup Metro achieves 100.9% HPV Vaccination coverage
Guwahati, June 20: 12,655 adolescent girls vaccinated against assigned target of 12,539, making the district the first in Assam to surpass the HPV vaccination target under Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Programme
Providing immunization against cervical cancer to all target beneficiaries, Kamrup Metropolitan District has achieved 100.9% coverage against the assigned target under the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Programme, making it the first district in Assam to attain the feat.
The programme, implemented under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) of the Government of India, was implemented in Kamrup Metropolitan District from 15 March 2026, along with rest of the state. It may be noted that as per national guidelines, the vaccination programme was conducted as a three-month special campaign.
Vaccination sessions were conducted in all health facilities having Cold Chain Points in the district under the supervision of the respective Medical Officers. Under the programme, 14-year-old adolescent girls were administered a single dose of Gardasil-4 HPV Vaccine free of cost, which provides protection against cervical cancer.
Against a target of 12,539 adolescent girls in the district, 12,655 girls were vaccinated, resulting in achieving an overall coverage of 100.9 percent.
This achievement has been made possible under the leadership of Swapneel Paul, District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan, and Parijat Bhuyan the District Development Commissioner , Kamrup Metropolitan. The efforts of the Jt Director Health Services IC Dr. Narayan Dutta Sharma, the Addl. CM&HO(FW) Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Bhuyan, the DIO Dr. Bhabendra Kumar Das, and the District Nodal Officer of this HPV vaccination campaign Dr. Mukuta Medhi played a crucial role in achieving this success.
