Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) Railway Board Inspects Kamakhya Coaching Depot
Guwahati, 11th May, 2026:
The Member Traction and Rolling Stock (MTRS), Railway Board, Shri R. Rajagopal conducted a comprehensive inspection of important operational and maintenance facilities at Kamakhya Coaching Depot under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on 10th May, 2026, with emphasis on crew welfare, rolling stock maintenance, safety improvements and the adoption of advanced technologies. The inspection was attended by senior railway officials led by Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway.
During the inspection, the MTRS visited the running room and crew lobby at Kamakhya where the resting facilities and amenities provided to train crew members of the Vande Bharat Sleeper & other premium trains were reviewed. Stress was laid on maintaining high standards of comfort and operational readiness for railway staff.
At the Coach Maintenance Depot, Kamakhya the MTRS inspected India’s first Vande Bharat rake and reviewed various maintenance and safety practices being adopted at the depot. At the pit line, detailed observations were made regarding new and advanced methods of rolling stock condition monitoring. The MTRS interacted with staffs, appreciated their dedication and commended the implementation of several new safety measures.
The inspection also included a review of the quality standards of the Vande Bharat Sleeper coaches. Suggestions were provided for further strengthening safety practices and enhancing maintenance efficiency.
Officials briefed the MTRS about the technology-based rolling stock and track monitoring systems currently being developed by the Lumding Division. The initiatives are aimed at improving predictive maintenance, operational safety and overall efficiency of railway operations across the zone.
The MTRS also held interactions with officers and staffs, emphasizing continuous innovation, safety consciousness and teamwork in railway operations.
