165th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore Observed in Haflong


 
Haflong, May 9: The 165th birth anniversary of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore was observed with cultural fervour at the Cultural Institute Hall in Haflong on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the newly formed Bangali Matri Sangha in collaboration with Bangali Kalyan Parishad. The event was attended by Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Donpainon Thaosen and Dimasa Apex Body president Arup Gorlosa, along with several distinguished guests, students and local residents.


Speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the life, philosophy and immense contribution of Rabindranath Tagore towards literature, music and Indian culture. They also stressed the importance of preserving and promoting his ideals among the younger generation.


The celebration featured dance and singing competitions, where a large number of students enthusiastically participated, adding colour and vibrancy to the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Bangali Matri Sangha president Gopa Chowdhury said the event was organised with the aim of making the younger and upcoming generation aware of the rich legacy and teachings of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore.
