Mrs Sarita Yolmo Becomes First Female TTE to Lead Tour Duties on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
Guwahati, 12th February, 2026:
The legendary tracks of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are witnessing a historic milestone as Sarita Yolmo takes on the mantle of the first woman Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) assigned to the prestigious "Tour Duty" on the world-heritage site railway.
Sarita’s journey to this historic moment is one of remarkable perseverance. She began her career in the Railway Press, serving with dedication until the facility's closure. Rather than letting a career shift slow her down, Sarita transitioned seamlessly into the commercial department, taking on a new role as a TTE based in New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
While she manages regular duties at NJP, Sarita gets occasionally directed for DHR Tour Duty. This specific assignment makes her the first woman in the history of the NFR to oversee the iconic heritage tours on the DHR.
Sarita Yolmo’s presence on the Toy Train is more than just a job assignment; it is a significant step forward for women's representation in the technical and field operations of the Indian Railways. Her story is a testament to the evolving spirit of the railways, where tradition meets progress.
