163rd Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda Observed with Reverence at Haflong
Haflong, January 12: The Ramakrishna Mission in Haflong marked the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with a series of solemn programs, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and local dignitaries.
Donphainon Thaosen, Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), served as the chief guest, inspiring attendees with his address on Vivekananda's timeless teachings of self-reliance and national awakening. The event featured a speech competition on the life and philosophy of the revered monk, judged by Prof. Shyamananda Choudhury and Debashri Dey.
Students from eight schools showcased their oratory skills, reciting eloquent tributes to Swami Vivekananda's contributions to Indian spirituality and youth empowerment. Participating institutions included Government Boys' HS School, Government Girls' HS School, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Haflong, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, St. Agnes' Convent School, Dibarai HS School, Vivekananda School, and Longmang High School.
The program underscored Vivekananda's enduring relevance in fostering moral values and patriotism among the youth of Dima Hasao, with cultural recitations and floral tributes rounding off the observance.
