Shillong to Observe Shradha Ceremony of Late Zubeen Garg on 19 October



Shillong, October 18: In a heartfelt tribute to one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, the Shillong Central Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee in collaboration with the Sankardev Cultural Centre will observe the Shradha Ceremony of Late Zubeen Garg on October 19, 2025, at the Deba Kumar Das Memorial Hall, Lumshatsngi (Bishnupur).

According to an official statement given by Dr. Diganta Das, the day-long programme, commencing at 11:00 a.m., will bring together admirers, cultural enthusiasts, and community members to celebrate the remarkable life and contributions of the legendary singer, composer, and actor. The ceremony will begin with a Kirtan Path by the Sankardev Namghar Atois, followed by soulful Nam-Kirtan performed by Namghar devotees, setting a serene spiritual tone for the occasion.

As part of the observance, Prasad along with cheera, cream, and other offerings will be distributed among all attendees. To mark the event’s sanctity, 52 traditional saki (earthen lamps) will be lit, symbolizing eternal remembrance and light. The programme will also include floral tributes to the late artist, alongside special moments remembering Zubeen Garg’s songs that continue to inspire millions across generations.

A signature campaign under the banner #JusticeForZubeen will also be organized, reflecting the collective sentiment of his admirers who continue to seek justice and recognition for the late icon. Additionally, the gathering will host a meeting to discuss the establishment of a Zubeen Garg Memorial in Shillong, ensuring that his legacy finds a permanent place in the city’s cultural landscape.

Organizers have extended a warm invitation to all well-wishers, fans, and members of the public to join in this solemn yet inspiring event.
