Durga Puja Celebrations Conclude with Idol Immersion at Diyung River
HAFLONG, Oct 21: The five-day Durga Puja celebrations concluded on Vijaya Dashami with the immersion of idols at the Diyung River on Wednesday. Hundreds of devotees from various household and community pujas gathered at the designated immersion site, located about 7 km from Haflong, to bid a ceremonial farewell to Goddess Durga.
In accordance
with directions issued by the Dima Hasao district administration, all idol
immersions were completed at designated locations. Adequate security
arrangements were made, with police personnel deployed along the route and at
the immersion site to ensure the smooth conduct of the rituals and prevent any
untoward incidents.
Officials of the
district administration remained present throughout the immersion process.
Altogether, around 20+ idols from different puja committees and households were
immersed in the Diyung River amid chants, devotional songs and traditional
rituals.
Earlier in the
day, women devotees participated in the customary Sindoor Khela,
applying vermilion to one another and offering prayers for the well-being and
prosperity of their families. Sweets were distributed among devotees as they
sought the blessings of Goddess Durga before her departure.
The festive
atmosphere was further enhanced by the rhythmic beats of the dhak as
young and old joined in the celebrations. People were seen exchanging
greetings, embracing one another and sharing sweets on the occasion of Vijaya
Dashami, marking the triumph of good over evil and bringing the annual
Durga Puja festivities to a close.
The immersion
ceremony passed off peacefully, bringing an end to one of the most significant
religious festivals celebrated in the district.
