Dima Hasao Admin Steps Up Security and Traffic Patrols Ahead of Durga Puja

Haflong, October 5: With Durga Puja just around the corner, the district administration of Dima Hasao has ramped up preparations to ensure a peaceful, seamless, and safe festive season across the hill district.

A high-level review meeting was chaired on Monday by District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge at the District Commissioner’s Conference Hall to assess overall security, traffic management, and emergency response capabilities.

Given the anticipated surge of devotees and visitors in Haflong and surrounding areas, discussions focused heavily on traffic control, public safety, and law enforcement. Municipal and police authorities were directed to deploy extra security personnel and enhance night patrolling around major puja pandals, market centers, and key roadways.

Key directives issued during the meeting include:

Safety Protocols: Puja committees must strictly adhere to administrative guidelines, with explicit mandates on fire safety compliance, secure electrical wiring, and unimpeded emergency evacuation routes.

Essential Services: Uninterrupted power and drinking water supplies, along with continuous sanitation drives around pandal premises, are to be maintained throughout the festival.

Emergency Readiness: Given the region's challenging hilly terrain, health departments and ambulance services have been placed on high alert to respond rapidly to any contingency.

District authorities emphasized that while celebrating the festival with enthusiasm is paramount, maintaining law, order, and public safety remains the top priority. The administration has appealed to both Puja committees and the general public to extend full cooperation to ensure a collision-free and enjoyable Durga Puja across Haflong, Mahur, Umrangso, Diyungbra, and other parts of the district.
