Sustained efforts towards improving quality healthcare services in Kamrup Metro

Guwahati, 7 September 2026:

An external assessment as per the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) was conducted today at Kamarkuchi Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) under Sonapur BPHC, Kamrup Metro district.

The inaugural programme for the assessment was attended by Dr. Tapan Das, the MLA, Dimoria LAC as the Chief Guest. The external assessment was carried out by Shri Vijay Chandra Jha and Dr. Manas Jyoti Kalita as per the prescribed NQAS standards.

NQAS is an important national framework aimed at ensuring quality, safe and patient-centric healthcare services in public health facilities. It provides a structured mechanism for quality improvement by assessing various aspects of healthcare delivery, including quality of services, patient rights, infection control, patient safety, cleanliness and quality management systems.

It may be noted that Kamrup Metro district has made significant progress in strengthening quality standards across its healthcare facilities. As a result of sustained quality improvement initiatives a total eight health facilities in the district have so far received NQAS certification. These include Gotanagar Urban Primary Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Sarabbhati Urban Primary Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Adingiri Urban Primary Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Ulubari Urban Primary Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Kamakhya State Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Bhetapara State Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Garigaon State Ayushman Arogya Mandir and Topatali Ayushman Arogya Mandir.

The district has also made notable progress in ensuring quality healthcare services for mothers and children. LaQshya is an important initiative aimed at improving the quality of care in labour rooms and maternal health care services with a focus on ensuring safe and quality care during childbirth. MusQan, on the other hand, focuses on improving the quality of paediatric healthcare services and ensuring safe and quality care for children.

In Kamrup Metro district, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) and Sonapur District Hospital have received LaQshya and MusQan certifications.

Moreover, Kayakalp, which is a structured evaluation process used to measure and score public health facilities on cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control has played an important role in promoting cleanliness, infection control, biomedical waste management and a hygienic environment across healthcare facilities. Under Kayakalp, a total of 69 health facilities in Kamrup Metro district have qualified.

The various quality-assurance initiatives and certifications under NQAS, LaQshya, MusQan and Kayakalp have significantly contributed towards strengthening standard-based, safe, clean and patient-centric healthcare services across Kamrup Metro district.
