Nepali Poet Mitra Prasad Upadhyay’s Poetry Collection ‘Saral Yugko Kalpana’ Released in Haflong

 Haflong, September 6: “Saral Yugko Kalpana”, a collection of poems written by noted Nepali poet Mitra Prasad Upadhyay, was released at a solemn function held at Haflong Kalibari on Sunday.

The book-release programme was attended by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Donpainan Thaosen, Haflong Municipal Board Vice-Chairman Keshav Sharma, and members of the Dima Hasao District Committee of the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, besides literary and cultural enthusiasts.

The Dima Hasao District Committee of the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha extended its warm greetings and best wishes to Upadhyay, popularly known by his literary name Mitra Upamanyu, on the publication of the poetry collection. Upadhyay is a former president of the Sabha’s Dima Hasao district committee and has been associated with Nepali language and literature for several decades.

The Sabha, in its goodwill message, described “Saral Yugko Kalpana” as Upadhyay’s first published collection of poems and expressed hope that the work would find a place in the hearts of literature lovers and contribute to the enrichment of Nepali literature in the district.

The organisation also recalled Upadhyay’s contribution to the promotion of literary activities in Dima Hasao during his tenure as district committee president in 2019. It noted that his initiatives had helped create greater enthusiasm for literary activities in the district.

Interacting with the media after the release, Upadhyay spoke about his literary journey, which began in 1996, and recalled the various stages of his association with Nepali language and literature. He shared his experiences and the circumstances that inspired him to continue writing over the years.

He said the poetry collection represented an important milestone in his long literary journey and expressed hope that readers, particularly young people, would connect with the thoughts and emotions reflected in the poems.

The programme concluded with members of the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha conveying their best wishes to Upadhyay for his future literary endeavours.
