ISF launches cleanliness drive along Jatinga river

 Haflong, September 22: The NC Hills Indigenous Students Forum (ISF) on Tuesday organised a cleanliness drive along the Jatinga river, a popular picnic destination located around 9 km from Haflong in Dima Hasao district, with nearly 150 youths taking part in the initiative.

The drive was aimed at cleaning the riverbank and its surroundings and raising awareness among visitors about the need to maintain hygiene at the popular picnic spot. The organisers also urged picnickers to ensure that they do not leave behind plastic waste, food packets, bottles and other litter after leaving the area.

The Jatinga river, originating in the Borail Range, is an important source of drinking water for people in Haflong and nearby villages, making the need to protect the river and its surroundings particularly significant.

The riverbank attracts a large number of visitors, especially during the picnic season. However, the indiscriminate disposal of waste by picnickers has emerged as a growing concern. Broken glass bottles, food packets and other discarded materials are frequently found scattered along the riverbank.

The ISF members said the cleanliness campaign was also intended to encourage visitors and local residents to take collective responsibility for keeping the river and its surroundings clean and preserving the natural beauty of the area.
