Haflong pays tribute to Zubeen Garg on first death anniversary

 Haflong, September 19: Haflong joined the State in remembering legendary singer Zubeen Garg on his first death anniversary on Saturday, with the Bangali Parishad Assam, Dima Hasao District Committee organising a tribute programme at the Jagannath Temple here.

The programme began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and floral tributes before a portrait of Zubeen Garg. A minute’s silence was also observed in memory of the departed singer.

Bangali Parishad Assam adviser Anup Kumar Biswas, Liton Chakraborty, district committee president Rajat Kanti Nath, general secretary (organisation) Biplab Deb and general secretary (administration) Uttam Dey, among others, paid floral tributes.

Members of the district committee’s cultural wing later performed some of Zubeen Garg’s songs in a musical tribute. Speakers also recalled his contribution to Assamese music and his close emotional connect with the people of Assam.

Speaking on the occasion, Ronit Dey, Biplab Deb and Rajat Kanti Nath recalled Zubeen Garg’s life, musical journey and enduring influence on Assam’s cultural landscape.

The programme concluded with a collective remembrance of the singer, whose songs continue to resonate with people across Assam even a year after his death.
