Freight Loading at NFR Registers 4.5% Growth During August 2026

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) registered a total freight loading of 0.957 million tonnes (MT) during August 2026, recording a growth of 4.5% over the 0.916 MT loaded during the corresponding month of the previous year. The cumulative freight loading from April to August 2026 reached 5.09 MT, reflecting an increase of 6.5% over the 4.78 MT recorded during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

 

Several major commodities contributed to the growth during August 2026. Cement loading more than doubled to 0.13 MT, registering a significant increase of 106.6% over August 2025. Loading of miscellaneous commodities, including fruits, vegetables and timber, grew by 92.3%, while coal and dolomite loading increased by 54.5% and 46.4%, respectively. Foodgrains loading also recorded a growth of 39.6%, followed by container traffic at 6.3% and fertilizer loading at 3.7% during the month.

 

During the cumulative period from April to August 2026, cement loading recorded an impressive growth of 161.9%, while miscellaneous commodities registered an increase of 44.6%. Dolomite loading grew by 34.2%, followed by coal at 7.5% and container traffic at 7.1% over the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

The sustained growth in freight loading reflects NFR’s continued focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening coordination with freight customers and facilitating the timely transportation of essential commodities. NFR remains committed towards expanding its freight traffic base and providing reliable and customer-oriented transportation services across the region.
