60-Days Intensified IEC Campaign on HIV/AIDS Begins in Kamrup Metro with Flag-off of IEC Van

Guwahati, 8 September 2026: The District Health Society, Kamrup Metro, today launched the 60-Days Intensified Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on HIV/AIDS with the flag-off of a dedicated IEC van to generate awareness on HIV among communities across the district.

The IEC van was flagged off by Shri Swapneel Paul, IAS, District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, marking the beginning of an intensive district-wide awareness drive. The van will travel through the lanes, roads and different localities of Kamrup Metro, carrying messages on HIV prevention, testing, treatment, stigma reduction and the availability of care and support services, thereby taking essential information directly to the community.

Following the flag-off ceremony, a district-level launch meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Monjit Borkakoti, ACS, District Development Commissioner, Kamrup Metro. The meeting was attended by the Assistant Registrar, Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences along with students, representatives from seven NGOs across the district and core officials of the District Health Society, Kamrup Metro.

As part of the 60-days campaign, 130 community awareness meetings have been scheduled across the district, covering schools, colleges, markets, villages and high-risk groups. The campaign will also feature street plays and other IEC activities to communicate HIV prevention messages in an engaging and accessible manner.

Special emphasis will be given to promoting early HIV testing, timely treatment, prevention of transmission, and reduction of stigma and discrimination associated with HIV.
