NFR 98th ZRUCC Meeting Highlights Transformative Growth across the Northeast

The 98^th meeting of the N.F. Railway Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) was held successfully at Maligaon on 25^th August, 2026. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, N.F. Railway, presided over the meeting, while the proceedings were smoothly conducted by Shri Anurag Agarwal, DGM and Secretary, ZRUCC. The meeting witnessed the participation of Hon’ble Members of Parliament Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy (Jalpaiguri), Shri Khagen Murmu (Maldah Uttar), Shri Tapir Gao (Arunachal East), Dr. Indra Hang Subba (Sikkim), Shri Kripanath Mallah from Karimganj (Assam) and Smt. S. Phangnon Konyak (Nagaland). Hon’ble Members of Legislative Assemblies Shri A. Pongshi Phom (Nagaland) and Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga (Mizoram) also attended the meeting. Senior officers from the State Governments, representatives of Hon’ble MPs, various railway users’ associations and organisations and other members from the North-Eastern States, West Bengal and Bihar also attended the meeting, making it a vibrant platform for constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement on the future development of railway services and infrastructure in the region.

 

Welcoming the members, Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava invited suggestions on all aspects of railway services and assured that their valuable inputs would receive due consideration. He highlighted the ongoing connectivity and infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening rail links including improved connectivity to the capitals of the North-Eastern States. The meeting also provided a valuable platform for constructive interaction and exchange of ideas to further enhance railway infrastructure and passenger services across the region.

 

Addressing the members, the General Manager highlighted N.F. Railway’s steady progress in railway electrification, expansion of train services, provision of additional stoppages, restoration of flood-affected services and infrastructure development. Railway electrification has reached 4,170 RKMs, while 15 new train services and more than 250 additional stoppages have been introduced, keeping in view the valuable suggestions and requirements of passengers and to further enhance connectivity and travel convenience across the region.

 

Shri Shrivastava also highlighted the increased budgetary support and progress of major connectivity projects, including the Bairabi–Sairang Project, railway projects in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, doubling works up to Tinsukia and the new Saraighat Bridge. He also highlighted the redevelopment of 92 stations under the Amrit Station Scheme and the expansion of modern passenger amenities, including ATVMs, Water Vending Machines and QR-based ticketing facilities. The General Manager also highlighted the growth of freight and logistics infrastructure, including new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals and the Jogighopa Multi Modal Logistics Park along with the adoption of advanced technologies to enhance safety and wildlife protection.

 

The Hon’ble Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies placed valuable suggestions and requests regarding railway services and infrastructure. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava assured them that all feasible suggestions would be given due consideration and implemented in a phased manner, as per priorities and feasibility. He thanked the Hon’ble Members for their valuable guidance and continued support.

 

Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava reaffirmed N.F. Railway’s commitment to building a safe, modern, efficient and passenger-friendly railway system. The meeting concluded with a constructive exchange of ideas, strengthening the partnership between the Railways, public representatives, State Governments and railway users towards improved connectivity, better passenger services and the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
