Double Electric Locomotive Haul Marks Major Milestone in Goods Train Operations to New Haflong

Haflong, August 25: A significant milestone was achieved in railway operations in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section with the successful trial movement of a goods train hauled by electric locomotives up to New Haflong.

The first goods train trial was conducted on August 21 with two electric locomotives in the lead and two diesel locomotives deployed as banking engines, reflecting the enhanced traction arrangements being tested for freight movement through the challenging hill section.

Further progress was recorded on August 24 when a goods train carrying rice was hauled on the down route with two electric locomotives in the lead and a single electric locomotive as the banking engine, successfully reaching New Haflong.

The latest trial is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening electric traction and improving the efficiency and reliability of goods train operations in the hill section. The successful movement of the rice-loaded train with electric locomotives in both leading and banking positions also demonstrates the growing capability of the electrified route to handle heavy freight traffic.

The development is expected to contribute to smoother transportation of essential commodities and further improve rail connectivity to the hill districts.
