Haflong, August 14: A five-day vocational training programme on “Food Processing and Value Addition for Sustainable Livelihood Enhancement” concluded at Haflong on Friday with the distribution of certificates among the participants.
The training programme, held from August 10 to 14 at the Skill Development Centre, Haflong, was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao, under ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VI, Guwahati, Assam, with funding support from SARAL.
The programme was aimed at equipping participants with practical skills in food processing and value addition, while promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities through the effective utilisation of locally available agricultural and food resources.
The training also focused on improving the marketability of agricultural products and encouraging participants to explore food processing as a means of self-employment, additional income generation and small-scale entrepreneurship.
The valedictory programme was attended by Herojit Jidung, MAC and Chairman of the Maibang Municipal Board, as the chief guest. Soumendra Longmailai, Chief Trustee, Keshav Vikas Nyas, and an officer from the Agriculture Department were present as guests of honour.
Speaking to the media, Dr Ardhendu Chakraborty, Senior Scientist, KVK, Dima Hasao, highlighted the objectives of the training and stressed the importance of developing practical skills in food processing and value addition to strengthen livelihood opportunities for local communities.
A trainee expressed happiness over participating in the programme and said the training had provided useful practical knowledge. She urged the authorities to organise more such skill-development programmes for the youth of Dima Hasao and place greater emphasis on entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities for young people.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants, marking the successful completion of the five-day vocational training initiative.
