Dima Hasao SI Death: Police Probe Alleged Drug Syndicate Link

 Haflong, August 16: The death of Sub-Inspector Navajit Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Laisong Police Outpost in Dima Hasao, has taken a sensational turn, with the incident now being investigated as more than a routine road accident.

Das was allegedly hit by a vehicle while conducting a naka check during the night. Although the incident was initially suspected to be an accidental hit-and-run, subsequent investigation has raised questions over whether the vehicle was deliberately driven into the officer to evade police checking.

Following the incident, police launched a series of operations and arrested Salim Uddin of Juriya, identified as the prime accused and an alleged wholesale drug dealer. His brother Mahidul Islam, father Abdul Kuddus Faraji, and associates Mofazzal Islam and Ruksana Khatun have also been arrested.

Police are investigating the alleged links between the accused and a wider narcotics network, including whether the incident was a deliberate attempt to escape law enforcement action.

Salim Uddin is currently in police custody and is being interrogated as the investigation continues. Various local organisations have demanded stringent action against all those found involved in the case and urged authorities to ensure that no member of the alleged drug syndicate is spared.
