Sashastra Seema Bal, Frontier Hqrs Guwahati Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Gaiety; Grand Band Performances for the People of Guwahati

Guwahati, 16th September: Frontier Hqrs Guwahati celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. On 15 August 2026, Shri Sudhir Verma, Inspector General, Frontier Guwahati, unfurled the National Flag at Frontier Headquarters and paid his respects to the Tricolour. On the occasion, he extended Independence Day greetings to all SSB personnel and their families and paid homage to the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

In his address, the Inspector General highlighted the operational, administrative and sporting achievements of Frontier Guwahati. He stated that Sashastra Seema Bal is entrusted with the responsibility of guarding 1,751 km of the India–Nepal border and 699 km of the India–Bhutan border, while also contributing to the development and welfare of people living in border areas with utmost alertness, dedication and a spirit of fraternity.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, under the guidance of Inspector General Shri Sudhir Verma and under the supervision of Shri HBK Singh, DIG, and Shri Sunil Kaushik, Commandant, 1st Battalion, SSB, the Jazz, Pipe and Brass Bands of Frontier Guwahati organised a two-day series of patriotic musical performances. A grand band show was organised on 15 August at City Centre Mall, Guwahati, followed by another performance on 16 August at Sati Radhika Shanti Udyan (Brahmaputra Riverfront), Uzan Bazar, Guwahati.

The SSB Bands won the hearts of the people of Guwahati with their captivating musical performances. The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation and overwhelming response from the general public.

The initiative aimed to further strengthen the message of unity, patriotism and national pride among the people of Guwahati and Assam through the medium of music, while also fostering a stronger bond between SSB and the general public.

During the celebrations, Deputy Inspectors General Shri Rajneesh Lamba and Shri Neeraj Chand, Commandant (Administration) Shri M.K.S. Munda, other senior officers, representatives of the local administration, SSB personnel and members of the media were present.
