Restoration Work of the Flood Effected Sections Going on in Full Swing
Guwahati, 22nd July, 2026:
Owing to heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment areas, overflowing water of the Dikhow River flooded in the Simaluguri town station and surrounding areas in Sibsagar district under the Tinsukia Division of Northeast Frontier Railway. The overflow of water has affected parts of the Simaluguri station yard, railway colony and has also overtopped the railway track in the affected sections.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Tinsukia Division has launched
extensive restoration with 24X7 monitoring to ensure
the earliest possible restoration of normal train services. Engineering teams
led by senior railway officials of division have been working continuously on a
war footing to address the impact of the floodwaters and early restoration of
train services.
Restoration work is currently in full swing in the Selenghat – Amguri section, where more than 200 workers have been deployed along with railway engineers and supervisors to expedite repair and restoration activities. The workforce is carrying out track restoration, strengthening of infrastructure and continuous inspection of the affected locations to ensure safe resumption of train operations.
Significant restoration work was also undertaken in the Sivasagar Town –
Simaluguri section on the previous day, with railway personnel making steady
progress despite adverse weather conditions.
Senior officials of Northeast Frontier Railway are closely supervising the restoration efforts, while all concerned departments are working in close coordination to minimise disruption of train services and restore normalcy at the earliest. Passenger safety remains the highest priority, and every effort is being made to ensure that restoration work is completed efficiently and safely.
Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to providing safe and
reliable rail services and appreciates the cooperation of passengers during
this period of unprecedented flooding.
