Dima Hasao to Begin First Phase of Census 2027 After August 16; Self-Enumeration Opens on August 2

 Haflong, July 31: Dima Hasao district will begin the first phase of Census 2027 after August 16, with large-scale digital data collection marking a significant shift in India's population census process.

Addressing a press conference at the District Commissioner's office in Haflong on Friday, District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge said the first phase, comprising House Listing and Housing Census, will commence after August 16. During this phase, enumerators will collect information on every household, including housing conditions, civic amenities, and other basic details.

She said the second phase, which involves Population Enumeration, will be conducted in February 2027. This stage will gather demographic, social, educational, and economic information on every individual. The data will serve as a crucial basis for government policies, development planning, and resource allocation.

The District Commissioner highlighted that Census 2027 will be India's 16th National Census and the eighth census since Independence. It will also be the country's first census to be carried out on a large scale using digital technology, making the process faster, more transparent, and more accurate.

One of the key features of the upcoming census is the Self-Enumeration facility. Citizens will be able to submit details of their households online from August 2 to August 16, 2026, before field enumeration begins. The administration expects the initiative to encourage greater public participation while simplifying the data collection process.

The district administration has appealed to all residents to extend full cooperation to census officials and ensure that accurate and complete information is provided. Officials emphasized that reliable census data is essential for planning and implementing development programmes in sectors such as education, healthcare, housing, transport, and public welfare.
