NFR to Make Comprehensive Arrangements for Ambubachi Mela 2026
Guwahati, 16th June, 2026:
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making
extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth, safe and comfortable travel
experience for the thousands of devotees expected to attend the annual
Ambubachi Mela at the revered Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati, from 22nd
to 25th June 2026. Anticipating a significant surge in passenger
traffic during the mela period, NFR is undertaking a comprehensive range of
passenger centric measures, including the operation of special trains,
round-the-clock ticketing facilities, deployment of additional railway and
security personnel, establishment of help desks and enquiry counters and
distribution of food packets and drinking water for pilgrims. These
arrangements are aimed at facilitating seamless movement of devotees, effective
crowd management and enhanced passenger convenience during one of the region's
most significant spiritual gatherings.
To cater to the
anticipated rush of pilgrims, NFR is operating three special unreserved train
services comprising nearly 50 General Second Class (GS) coaches, connecting
Kamakhya with important destinations in Assam and North Bengal. In addition,
various regular passenger trains are being augmented with 11 additional GS
coaches on a temporary basis to enhance carrying capacity during the mela
period. As part of these arrangements, Train No. 05661 Kamakhya - Alipurduar
Junction one-way special train will depart from Kamakhya on 19th
June 2026 and reach Alipurduar on the following day. Additionally, Train Nos.
05444/05445 Alipurduar -Kamakhya - Alipurduar special trains will operate daily
from 20th to 22nd June and from 24th to 27th
June 2026, providing enhanced connectivity between Assam and North Bengal
during the mela period. Further, Train No. 05780 New Jalpaiguri - Kamakhya
special train will operate on 20th and 27th June 2026,
while train no. 05779 Kamakhya - New Jalpaiguri special train will operate on
21st and 28th June 2026, offering additional travel
options for devotees visiting the holy shrine.
To facilitate hassle-free ticketing,
additional ticket counters are being kept operational round the clock at
Kamakhya and Guwahati railway stations. Special help desks and enquiry counters
are also being set up at key locations to provide guidance, information and
assistance to pilgrims throughout the mela period.
To ensure effective
crowd management and enhanced passenger convenience, additional personnel from
the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), commercial
and technical departments are being deployed at Kamakhya, Guwahati and other
key stations. In addition, around 200 volunteers from the NFR Bharat Scouts
& Guides are being engaged to assist pilgrims with guidance, information
and other support services, thereby facilitating a smooth and hassle-free
pilgrimage experience during the Ambubachi Mela.
With these comprehensive arrangements in
place, Northeast Frontier Railway is geared up to facilitate a safe, convenient
and seamless pilgrimage experience for devotees attending the Ambubachi Mela
and ensure smooth passenger movement throughout the festival period.
