Silent Period Begins in Haflong LAC Ahead of Assembly Polls
Haflong, April 7: The District administration has announced the commencement of the mandatory “silent period” for the ongoing Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 in the 113-Haflong (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency.
According to an official notification issued to all contesting candidates and recognized national and state political parties in Dima Hasao, the silent period will come into effect from 5 PM on April 7, 2026. This marks 48 hours prior to the close of polling, in accordance with Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
During this period, all forms of election campaigning have been strictly prohibited. The restrictions include public meetings, processions, and any campaign-related activities. Display or dissemination of election material through print, electronic, or social media platforms has also been banned.
Further, canvassing of votes through any mode, including bulk SMS, phone calls, and social media posts, will not be allowed. Authorities have also barred any activity that may influence voters during the prohibited period.
In addition, individuals who are not registered voters in the constituency have been directed to leave the area before 5 PM on April 7.
The administration has urged all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the guidelines to ensure free, fair, and peaceful conduct of the election.
