DHAC Chairman Inaugurates Dimasa Cultural Center in Maibang to Preserve Traditional Arts


 Haflong, April 19: Chairman , Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Mohet Hojai today inaugurated the “Dimasa Damthai Luthai Slingkho” cultural center at Maibang, expressing pride in the initiative aimed at safeguarding the Dimasa community's rich heritage.

The new facility will serve as a dedicated hub for teaching and practicing traditional Dimasa arts, including soulful flute melodies, indigenous drum beats, folk songs, and dances. Speaking at the event, the Chairman emphasized that the center goes beyond music—it's a vital space for preserving ancestral stories, identity, and roots.

“This is about giving our children a platform to learn, appreciate, and carry forward our timeless traditions,” the Hojai stated. He underscored the role of such efforts in inspiring youth to stay connected to their cultural legacy and take pride in it, especially amid rapid modernization in Assam's hill districts.

The inauguration drew community leaders and residents, signaling strong local support for cultural revival initiatives in Dima Hasao.
