Gauhati University felicitates APSC achievers; GUICE session encourages next generation of aspirants
Guwahati, March 9, 2026: Gauhati University honoured successful candidates of the APSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 at a special felicitation programme organised by the Gauhati University Initiative for Competitive Examinations (GUICE). The event brought together newly selected officers and civil services aspirants, turning the occasion into a platform for inspiration, mentorship and practical guidance.
Addressing the gathering, Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, former Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission and Visiting Professor at Gauhati University, spoke on the theme “How to be a Good and Efficient Officer.” Emphasising the values expected of a civil servant, he remarked that clearing the examination is only the first step. “Integrity, commitment to public service and the courage to take impartial decisions are what ultimately define a good administrator,” he said, adding that the strength of any administration lies in the trust it earns from people.
He also highlighted the difference between preparing for an examination and serving in public office, noting that patience, responsibility, empathy and sound judgement are essential qualities for effective governance.
The University felicitated the successful candidates of APSC CCE 2024: Nihar Ranjan Deka, Rajneesh Sharma, Atlanta Choudhury, Srishti Chaliha, Anindita Das, Abhishek Ghosh, Rinki Rani Das, Mintu Nath, Anamika Goswami, Himakshi Baruah, Bhaskar Hazarika and Jitassha Das. Their achievements were celebrated not only as personal milestones but also as a source of encouragement for students preparing for competitive examinations.
The initiative forms part of Gauhati University’s broader effort to strengthen academic support for civil services aspirants through GUICE and the University’s Pre-Examination Training Centre (PETC). The programmes aim to provide structured guidance, training and mentorship so that students can prepare for competitive examinations without relying solely on private coaching.
The session was attended by Dr. Mrinal Jyoti Deka, Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor and PRO of Gauhati University; Dr. Sanjay Kumar Dutta, OSD to the Vice-Chancellor; and Vidyarthi Mahanta, Course Coordinator of GUICE, along with faculty members and students.
The interaction concluded on a note of encouragement, with the presence of successful candidates offering a powerful reminder that disciplined preparation, institutional support and perseverance can open the doors to public service.
