Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Landmark Assam Visit Ushers in a New Era of Connectivity and Growth
Guwahati 14th February: Assam witnessed a historic day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated and inaugurated a series of transformative projects, marking what leaders described as a new chapter in the state’s development journey.
Among the key highlights was the dedication of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu over the Brahmaputra, strengthening connectivity between Guwahati and North Guwahati. The Prime Minister also dedicated the National Data Centre for the North East, inaugurated the IIM Guwahati Transit Campus, and flagged off 100 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa initiative. In another announcement, 225 e-buses were introduced under the same scheme, reinforcing sustainable urban mobility in the state.
In a historic first for the region, the Prime Minister landed on the Dibrugarh–Moran National Highway using the Moran emergency landing facility. This marked the first such landing in the North East and symbolized the efficiency of Indian engineers and the country’s growing infrastructure confidence. A decade ago, even ordinary vehicles struggled on Assam’s roads; today, military aircraft can land smoothly — a testament to what leaders called a “360-degree transformation” of the state’s road network. The facility will serve not only as improved road communication but also as a strategic lifeline for the armed forces in times of need. The state expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his consistent support in advancing road connectivity.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi addressed a massive BJP Booth Vijay Sankalp Rally at Khanapara Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati, attended by over one lakh workers, including booth presidents from 31,486 booths across Assam.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that gifts once unimaginable have now been given to Assam wholeheartedly by the Prime Minister. He asserted that ten years of uninterrupted progress have ushered the state into a new era and called upon party workers to ensure a third consecutive BJP-led government in Assam as a “gift” to the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister highlighted major projects including the Gahpur–Numaligarh Brahmaputra tunnel (over ₹18,000 crore), the Kaziranga elevated corridor, the Narengi–Kuruwa bridge, the Bogibeel Bridge, the Dhola–Sadiya Bridge, and the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu. He announced promises of two lakh additional government jobs, five lakh youth beneficiaries under the Atmanirbhar Assam scheme, and further land reforms.
Describing this as Assam’s “golden time,” he affirmed that the BJP-led alliance would form a stronger government with even greater public support, carrying forward the state’s journey of development and security.
