Northeast Frontier Railway Completes Major Curve Realignment in Simaluguri–Moranhat Section

Guwahati, 20th February 2026:

Northeast Frontier Railway has successfully completed major curve realignment work between Simaluguri and Moranhat Sections in the Tinsukia Division in connection with the removal of a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR). The work marks another significant milestone in strengthening rail infrastructure and enhancing operational efficiency in the section.

The project involved complex engineering activities, which were executed smoothly during the traffic block with close coordination among the Engineering, Operating and Traction Distribution (TRD) departments. The existing 4-degree curve was realigned and connected with a newly laid 2-degree curve. New Overhead Equipment (OHE) wires and masts were also installed to ensure seamless electric traction operations over the realigned stretch.

Earlier, the section had an existing curve of 400 metres length with a 4-degree curvature. Under the new alignment, a 660-metre-long curve of 2-degree curvature has been laid on a newly developed formation of approximately 650 metres. The maximum slew carried out during the realignment was 27.77 metres, reflecting the scale and precision of the engineering effort.

As part of the infrastructure enhancement, a new Bridge No. 31 with a span of 4m x 4m and a total length of 10.2 metres has also been constructed on the newly formed alignment. The new bridge and formation will ensure improved track stability, safety and long-term durability of the section.

With the completion of this work, the Permanent Speed Restriction of 80 kmph over a stretch of 400 metres has been permanently removed. The track is now fit for Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) of 110 kmph, which will significantly improve train mobility, reduce travel time and enhance punctuality.

This accomplishment once again demonstrates the commitment of Northeast Frontier Railway towards modernizing rail infrastructure, improving safety standards and providing faster, safer and more reliable train services across the region.
