Amit Shah Attends CRPF Annual Day Parade in Guwahati, Lays Foundation for New Assam Police Battalion Campus
Guwahati, 21 February — Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the Annual Day parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as the chief guest in Guwahati on Saturday, marking a historic first as the event was hosted in the Northeast region for the first time.
The ceremonial parade was held at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where senior officials and personnel of the force participated in the proceedings with full honors. The event highlighted the dedication, discipline, and service of the CRPF, one of India’s premier paramilitary forces, in maintaining internal security across the country.
During his visit to Assam, Shah also laid the foundation stone for a new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion at Kachutoli in Sonapur. The ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 260 crore, will be developed over 347 acres of land. Authorities stated that the land had been cleared of encroachments over the past two years to facilitate the construction. The battalion will function under the Assam Police and is expected to significantly strengthen the state’s security infrastructure.
The Home Minister arrived in Assam on Friday night after attending official programmes in Agartala, Tripura. His engagements there included participation in a Rajbhasha Sammelan and the launch of the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme. Earlier during his visit to the Northeast, Shah also addressed a public meeting in Cachar district of Assam.
His visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening security forces and infrastructure development in the Northeast region.
