Students enjoy India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train




Guwahati, January 17: The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi today flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train, connecting Howrah with Guwahati (Kamakhya), from Malda Town Railway Station. The Prime Minister also virtually flagged off the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express virtually.  

At Guwahati (Kamakhya), Governor of Assam Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, Cabinet Minister of Assam Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, MP Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita, MP Smt. Bijuli Kalita Medhi & MP Shri Pradan Baruah, senior railway officials and other dignitaries were present on the occasion at Kamakhya for the flagging off of the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Howrah 1st Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train.




Students and teachers from many different schools including Kendriya Vidyalaya Maligaon, Railway H.S. School Maligaon, and Netaji Vidyapeeth School Maligaon were present at the event. Several students got the opportunity to travel from Kamakhya to Rangiya aboard the newly launched sleeper train, making the occasion a memorable experience.



The experience was shared by the students of Class VIII of Railway High School, who expressed their excitement at being part of this historic journey. They said they felt proud to travel on India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train and praised its modern technology, clean and hygienic washrooms, comfortable seats, well-designed interiors, and overall smooth travel experience.



The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems, enhanced passenger comfort features, and energy-efficient technology, aimed at redefining long-distance rail travel in the country. Railway officials stated that the introduction of sleeper variants would significantly benefit passengers by combining speed, safety, and comfort.

The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train  is being viewed as a major boost to Assam’s railway connectivity and a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure in the Northeast, reflecting the continued focus on modernising Indian Railways.
