Biate Community Celebrates ‘Nulding Kut’ Festival of Renewal of Life in Dima Hasao


 
Haflong, January 13: The Biate community of Dima Hasao district celebrated Nulding Kut, the “Festival of Renewal of Life,” with traditional fervor and gaiety across the district today.
At Sangber, Biate Cultural Organisation, Assam organised the Nulding Kut, centrally at the Sanbar play ground on January 13th and 14th with great enthusiasm. 
The inaugural session was started with the Beating of Gong by Kut Pa- Pu Zoramkhuma Thianglai, Blate Kalim and was followed by felicitations of guests by the organisers.  


The event was graced by Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, as Chief Guest. Mohet Hojai, Chairman, DHAC, Rupali Langthasa, MAC and others as Guests of Honour while L. Darnei, MAC, DHAC attended as the chief host. 
Nulding Kut, one of the most significant festivals of the Biate tribe, has been celebrated since time immemorial. Regarded as the “Festival of Renewal of Life,” it marks the symbolic beginning of the New Year. Traditionally observed in early January, the festival is rooted in prayers, forgiveness, and community bonding.

 Speaking on the occasion chief guest Debolal Gorlosa, DHAC, CEM dwelt at length about the need for the preservation and promotion of tradition and culture of each and every community while appealing the youth community to take the task in letter and spirit. He also emphasised that it was the duty to preserve and promote their tradition, culture and languages of their own as none other can do the same. 
DHAC, Chairman Mohet Hojai appreciating the endeavour of the Biate community for organising such a grand event showcasing the rich culture and tradition during this celebration. He made a fervent appeal to make Dima Hasao a place for co-existence and harmony terming Dima Hasao as Mini Assam where several tribes and communities have been living in peace and harmony since time immemorial. He also said if Biate is developed, Dima Hasao is developed, if Dima Hasao is developed Assam is developed thus India is developed. 


The celebrations included religious rites led by the village priest (Thiampu), cultural dances, and folk songs. Villagers dressed in their colorful customary attire (Nampuan), while games and sports added to the festive spirit. The occasion is also considered a day of forgiveness (Ngaidamna ni), where people let go of past grievances and renew their strength and determination for the year ahead.
