Prisoner Escapes Custody from Haflong Civil Hospital in Dima Hasao

Haflong, December 22,  — In a shocking incident, an undertrial prisoner identified as Ronaldo Haflongbar reportedly escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at Haflong Civil Hospital. Haflongbar was lodged in the  Haflong Sub-Jail and had been shifted to the hospital for medical attention.

Details on how Haflongbar managed to flee remain unclear, but authorities suspect possible lapses in security protocols. 

Police have launched an immediate search operation across Haflong and surrounding areas in Dima Hasao district.

Haflong Sub-Jail, one of Assam's older facilities, has faced scrutiny in the past for security issues, including a recent escape by a former DNLA cadre in November 2025. 

This latest incident has raised fresh concerns about oversight at the jail and hospital.
