The formal pipping ceremony, marking his commissioning as a Flying Officer, was held at Air Force Station Tambaram on 26 December 2025 in accordance with Indian Air Force traditions. The ceremony symbolised the culmination of months of rigorous training and the assumption of official responsibilities as a commissioned officer.
This commissioning is of particular significance for Gauhati University, as Dr. Kalita becomes the University’s first Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the NCC Air Force Wing to hold the rank of Flying Officer. The milestone underscores the University’s commitment to fostering leadership, discipline, and national service alongside academic excellence, and highlights the evolving role of educators in shaping both intellectual and civic responsibility.
