Dima Hasao DM Imposes Section 144 Curbs on Jatinga-Harangajao Highway Sites to Ensure Smooth NHAI Construction

Haflong, December 15:
In a bid to prevent disruptions to critical highway works, Dima Hasao District Magistrate  Minindra Nath Ngatey, ACS, has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 (equivalent to Section 144 of the erstwhile CrPC) to ban gatherings of more than five people near ongoing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) construction sites along the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH-27.

The order, issued today and effective immediately, addresses repeated halts to the project caused by "agitating locals frequently without justification." With the construction deadline set for January 31, 2025, the district administration emphasized its commitment to "smooth and seamless" progress by NHAI officials and contractors.

No more than five individuals allowed to gather near active construction zones between Jatinga and Harangajao on NH-27. Passed without individual notices under Section 153 BNSS due to urgent circumstances; remains in force until further notice.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, directed to implement strictly.

The move comes amid local concerns over the highway project, vital for connectivity in the hill district. Violations could lead to legal action, as the order underscores the administration's resolve to prioritize infrastructure development.

District residents and travelers are urged to comply to avoid penalties. Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
