Dr Nagen Saikia to Receive Asam Sahitya Sabha’s Highest Honour ‘Sadasya Varenya’
Guwahati, October 22: The Asam Sahitya Sabha has announced that eminent writer and former Sabha president Dr Nagen Saikia will be conferred with its highest honour, ‘Sadasya Varenya’, in recognition of his immense contributions to Assamese literature and culture.
A towering figure in the state’s literary landscape, Dr Saikia has enriched Assamese prose and criticism through his extensive body of work. He was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1997 for his acclaimed short story collection Andharat Nizar Mukh. Earlier, in 1980, he received recognition from the Mohan Chandra Sahitya Sabha for his essay collection Chinta aru Charcha.
The conferment of the Sadasya Varenya title underscores the Asam Sahitya Sabha’s continued efforts to acknowledge and celebrate individuals who have significantly contributed to the growth and preservation of Assamese language and literature.
