Passenger Bus Services on Silchar-Haflong NH-27 to Resume from October 17

 Haflong, October 15:

In a major relief to commuters, passenger bus services on the Silchar-Haflong stretch of National Highway 27 (NH-27) will be allowed to resume from 6 am on October 17, 2026, following an order issued by the District Commissioner of Dima Hasao on Wednesday.

The permission has been granted in the interest of public convenience and to facilitate transportation between Silchar and Haflong, following a No Objection Certificate issued by the Project Director, Project Implementation Unit (PIU), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Silchar, on October 14.

According to the order issued by the Development Branch of the District Commissioner's office, passenger buses will be permitted to ply on the designated stretch subject to statutory requirements and strict adherence to road safety measures.

The administration has made it mandatory for drivers to maintain prescribed speed limits in the hill section, with further reduced speeds at bridges and roadwork zones. Drivers must also follow road signage and instructions issued by flagmen at work sites. Overloading of buses will not be permitted.

Bus owners and operators have been directed to ensure that their vehicles possess valid registration, fitness and insurance certificates, pollution-under-control certificates, and all necessary permits and authorisations. Drivers must hold valid driving licences and comply with traffic rules and road safety regulations.

The order further stipulates that buses must operate only on authorised routes, adhere to permitted seating capacity, and avoid obstructing traffic or inconveniencing other road users. The instructions issued by the district administration, police and transport department must be followed strictly.

The District Police Authority and the District Transport Office of Dima Hasao have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the prescribed restrictions. The administration has also warned that violations of the conditions may lead to the suspension or cancellation of the permission.

The resumption of passenger bus services is expected to improve connectivity between Silchar and Haflong, providing much-needed relief to commuters travelling between the Barak Valley and Dima Hasao.
