NFR Inaugurates ‘The Terminal’ at Guwahati Railway Station Bringing Dining, Shopping and Recreation Together
Guwahati, 24th October, 2026:
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) introduced a new dimension to passenger amenities with the inauguration of “The Terminal”, a dedicated dining, shopping and recreation space at Guwahati Railway Station on 23rd October, 2026. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, inaugurated the facility in the presence of Shri Niraj Sahay, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, NFR, and Shri Samir Lohani, Divisional Railway Manager, Lumding. Located in the old Passenger Reservation System building area on Station Road, Panbazar, the facility offers passengers, families and visitors a convenient space for refreshments and leisure.
Developed by Lumding Division under the New
Innovative Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (NINFRIS), the project has transformed
an underutilised railway asset into an attractive commercial and leisure hub.
Spread over 27,381 square feet, the facility has been awarded to Fusion Edge
Solution under a five year contract valued at Rs 2.27 crore. The initiative
combines improved amenities with productive utilisation of railway assets and
generation of non-fare revenue.
The Terminal brings together a dining zone featuring national and international quick-service restaurant brands, a flea market showcasing local handicrafts, souvenirs and retail products, and an indoor soft play area for children. These facilities provide varied food choices and opportunities for shopping and recreation, making waiting time more comfortable for travellers and accompanying families. The marketplace also offers regional artisans a platform to showcase their products and reach a wider customer base.
With dedicated seating, thematic lighting,
landscaped spaces and thoughtfully designed interiors, the facility provides a
welcoming environment with provisions for safety, hygiene, fire protection and
security in accordance with railway standards. The initiative reflects NFR’s
commitment to enhancing passenger convenience, promoting regional commerce and
generating sustainable non-fare revenue through innovative utilisation of
railway assets.
