District Commissioner Inspects Accident-Prone Stretches of NH-27
Haflong, October 4: In a move to strengthen road safety and prevent accidents along the hilly stretches of National Highway-27, Dima Hasao District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge on Saturday led a joint inspection of several vulnerable and accident-prone locations along the highway.
The inspection was conducted in coordination with the police and officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to identify locations requiring immediate safety interventions.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, Ripunjay Kakati, along with Additional District Commissioner and NHAI officials, accompanied the District Commissioner during the inspection.
The team examined various stretches of NH-27, particularly sharp bends, uneven road sections, hill slopes and other locations that could pose risks to motorists. The condition of the road, availability of road signs, safety measures and other traffic-related hazards were also assessed on the spot.
Given the difficult terrain of Dima Hasao, where large portions of the highway pass through steep and winding hill sections, road users face increased risks, particularly during adverse weather conditions. The inspection aimed at assessing the effectiveness of existing road safety measures and identifying areas where additional interventions are required.
The officials also discussed the need for improved warning signs, traffic management, safety infrastructure and other precautionary measures at vulnerable locations. Coordination between the district administration, police and NHAI was emphasised as an important component of accident prevention.
The joint inspection is expected to help identify priority areas for intervention and facilitate coordinated measures to improve road safety and ensure safer movement of vehicles along NH-27 through the hill district.
