NFR TO INSTALL PARCEL CAGES AT SEVEN STATIONS IN KATIHAR DIVISION
Guwahati, 25th September, 2026:
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), towards making parcel handling a more organised and secure system at stations & terminals, has begun introducing installation of modern parcel cages, providing an extra edge of safety for its passengers and users.
With this
aim, the
facilities are planned at Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Haldibari,
Malda Court, Balurghat and Katihar. Installation is under way at New
Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Malda Court and Balurghat. Work at the remaining three
stations will begin shortly.
Designed to provide dedicated storage for parcels and luggage, the facilities will bring greater order, safety and efficiency to the movement of consignments at the stations. The dedicated facilities will provide space for the temporary storage of parcels and luggage, helping protect consignments while they await handling or dispatch.
Once completed, the parcel cages will create clearly defined spaces for the temporary storage and handling of parcels and luggage, helping railway staff manage consignments with greater precision at these important stations. The improved arrangements will also contribute to better utilisation of station space and smoother parcel operations.
By
strengthening the security and organisation of parcel handling, the initiative
is expected to reduce the risk of consignments being misplaced, damaged or
stolen. It will also enhance customer confidence in railway parcel services and
provide passengers with a more dependable and convenient experience.
