NFR Records Consistent Freight Performance in August

 Guwahati, 05^th September, 2026:         

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) maintained its strong freight momentum in August 2026 by registering an impressive unloading performance. During the month, a total of 1021 freight rakes were unloaded across the zone, reflecting a strong and encouraging freight operations.

NFR continued to ensure the uninterrupted transportation of essential and industrial commodities throughout August 2026. Commodities such as food grains, food-grade items, fertilizers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagons and other goods were handled efficiently at various goods sheds across the zone, enabling timely distribution and reinforcing the reliability of its freight services.

A significant share of the freight traffic was dedicated to meeting the requirements of the Northeastern states. Assam accounted for the highest unloading with 560 rakes, comprising of essential commodities and non-essential commodities, underscoring the vital role of Railways in supporting public distribution systems, industrial activities and daily consumer needs. During the same period, 69 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 15 rakes in Nagaland, 19 rakes in Manipur, 8 rakes in Arunachal Pradesh and 6 rakes in Mizoram. 

In addition, West Bengal recorded the unloading of 193 rakes, while Bihar accounted for 151 rakes comprising both essential and non-essential commodities, further strengthening regional supply chains, trade connectivity and economic activities across the region.

The continuous movement of essential and other commodities is vital for meeting people’s daily needs while supporting and strengthening the region’s economic activities. Effective monitoring at every level has further helped reduce turnaround time and improve overall unloading efficiency.
