General Manager of N. F. Railway, Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava,
called on the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Lok
Bhavan, Manipur, on 01st September 2026. During the meeting,
discussions were held on strengthening rail connectivity in the state,
improving passenger convenience and freight movement, enhancing security
infrastructure and further advancing railway services and infrastructure in
Manipur.
Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava also met the Hon’ble Chief Minister
of Manipur, Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh, at the CM Secretariat. The meeting was
attended by senior officials from the State Government and N. F. Railway, and
focused on key issues concerning railway connectivity, infrastructure and
passenger services in the state.
Discussions included measures to ensure the smooth and regular
operation of passenger train services between Jiribam and Khongsang, with a
focus on providing reliable and convenient rail services to the people of the
region. The feasibility of establishing direct rail connectivity between
Manipur and Guwahati was also discussed, which would further enhance
connectivity with the state’s major urban and commercial centre and provide
greater convenience to passengers. The meeting also reviewed the need for
improving road connectivity between Vangaichungpao and the National Highway,
along with strengthening security infrastructure to facilitate safer and more
efficient railway operations.
The meeting also discussed measures for the efficient handling and
management of freight traffic at Khongsang Terminal, with a view to
facilitating smoother movement of goods and improving the logistics network in
the state. The introduction and operationalisation of RO-RO (Roll-on/Roll-off)
services at the terminal was also deliberated upon to facilitate the movement
of goods and vehicles through an efficient rail-based transportation system.
Further, the current status and progress of the Jiribam–Imphal New Railway Line
Project were reviewed in detail, with emphasis on expediting the ongoing works
and ensuring steady progress towards completion of this strategically important
rail connectivity project.
The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of N. F. Railway towards
strengthening railway infrastructure, improving passenger and freight services,
enhancing security and supporting the overall socio-economic development of
Manipur through better rail connectivity.
