Announcement of the Guwahati International Marathon

​Guwahati, September 10: The Guwahati International Marathon, scheduled to be held on February 7, 2027, was formally announced on Thursday during a press conference held at the Radisson Blu in the city, in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Around 12,000 participants from across India and overseas are expected to take part in this marathon race.

​Registration for runners from India and abroad will open from September 11. The first edition, taking place on February 7, will feature 42.195 km, 21.097 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 1.5 km races. The primary objective of this major event is to establish Guwahati and Assam as an emerging hub and a prominent destination for international sporting events. The Guwahati International Marathon is being promoted by PMG Sports LLP.

​This will be an inclusive, celebratory, and community-oriented run of the event, encouraging people of different ages and backgrounds to participate and run for a cause.

​Indian badminton champion Ms. P.V. Sindhu will also join the Guwahati International Marathon as its Brand Ambassador, and her participation is expected to further amplify the marathon's message of fitness, sporting excellence, and youth engagement, while expanding the event's reach nationally and internationally.

​With the formal announcement of the marathon, participant registrations for the first edition will open from September 11, 2026, enabling runners to secure their participation.

​Participants can register online through the official event website https://www.guwahatiinternationalmarathon.org. The website provides online registration facilities along with detailed information regarding eligibility, registration fees, and race categories.

The Guwahati International Marathon Wii offer a total prize purse of Rs 1.25 crore.

The races will start and finish at Judges Field, with the route taking participants past several prominent locations in Guwahati. From Judges Field, the course will proceed towards Gauhati University and the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu before heading towards IIT Guwahati and returning to Judges Field via the bridge. Sarma said the course had been measured by Kim Vivian of Australia, a Grade A-certified road race course measurer. Experienced race professional Richard will serve as race director, while Ian Landbrook will coordinate the elite athletes. Former Asian Marathon Championship winner Sunita Godara will serve as the elite athlete coordinator for India, while Olympic medallist and badminton star P V Sindhu will be the brand ambassador of the marathon.
