World Breastfeeding Week Launched in Kamrup Metro District


 

Guwahati, 01 August: The World Breastfeeding Week was launched today in Kamrup Metro district along with the rest of the state. The week-long observance was inaugurated at Satgaon State Ayushman Arogya Mandir by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup Metro.

World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year from 1st to 7th August across the state. The observance aims to create awareness about benefits of breastfeeding, provide appropriate guidance and support to lactating mothers for proper breastfeeding & ensure that every child receives optimal nutrition from the very beginning of life.

The programme was attended by Dr. Bhabendra Kumar Das, DIO, Dr. Dhruba Rajbangshi, SDM&HO In-charge, Satgaon State Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Dr. Karobee Hazarika, DNO-AYUSH, District Programme Manager (DPM), District Media Expert (DME) & District Community Mobilizer (DCM) from the National Health Mission, Kamrup Metro along with doctors m, nurses & healthcare workers of the facility and pregnant and lactating mothers.


As part of the observance of World Breastfeeding Week, a series of awareness activities will be conducted throughout the week at all tye Health Institutions across Kamrup Metro district. These activities will include breastfeeding awareness meetings, health education sessions, counselling sessions, interactive discussions with pregnant and lactating mothers, and distribution of IEC materials to promote breastfeeding and to improve awareness on optimal infant nutrition.
