NFR Boosts Freight Operations with Customer-Focused Initiatives
Guwahati, 31st August, 2026:
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken several customer focused initiatives to facilitate freight operations and augment railway freight revenue across its network. These measures are aimed at improving freight handling facilities, creating additional opportunities for cargo movement and strengthening rail-based logistics.
As part of
these initiatives, Kharahat Station under Tinsukia Division has been opened for
handling inward PSC Sleeper traffic with effect from 1st July 2026.
Similarly, New Missamari Station under Rangiya Division has been opened for
handling inward military traffic with effect from 29th July 2026,
facilitating streamlined freight operations and supporting efficient cargo
movement.
NFR has also registered freight revenue through loading of various commodities across its divisions. Under Alipurduar Division, one rake of maize loaded from Falakata to Ranibennur generated freight revenue of Rs. 0.74 crore. Another rake of rice loaded from Tufanganj to Jirania under Alipurduar Division generated freight revenue of Rs. 0.29 crore. Under Katihar Division, 43 rakes of maize consignments were loaded from Purnea, Ranipatra, Arariya, Jalalgarh, Rahamatpur, Bathnaha, Surja Kamal, Dalkhola and Katihar generating freight revenue of Rs. 29.72 crore.
Lumding Division also recorded significant freight loading. A total of 315 wagons of stone chips were booked, generating freight revenue of Rs. 1.37 crore. In addition, 1,921 wagons of cement were booked, contributing Rs. 9.06 crore in freight revenue. Further, 196 wagons of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) were booked, generating Rs. 2.38 crore in freight revenue.
These
initiatives reflect NFR’s continued commitment to strengthening freight
handling facilities and enhancing the customer experience. By promoting greater
utilisation of rail for diverse commodities, NFR is facilitating efficient and
reliable freight movement while supporting regional trade, logistics and
economic growth.
