Gauhati University Organises First-Ever Job Fair; 65 Companies and Over 500 Job Aspirants Participate
Guwahati, 25 August 2026: Gauhati University successfully organised its first-ever Job Fair on the University campus on 25th August,2026, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen employability, career opportunities, and academia–industry engagement.
The Gauhati University Job Fair 2026, organised by the Job Fair Committee, Gauhati University, brought leading employers and job aspirants together on a common platform. As the first Job Fair organised by Gauhati University, the initiative represents an important step towards creating a structured institutional mechanism for facilitating employment opportunities for students and alumni while building stronger and sustained linkages with industry.
The inaugural session commenced with the welcome address by Prof. Pranjal Kumar Baruah, Chairman, Job Fair and Dr. Samir Sarkar, Convener, Job Fair Committee, who highlighted the objectives and significance of this pioneering initiative.
The programme was graced by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University; Mr. Hemanta Bayan, Vice President, Retail Branch Banking, HDFC Bank, as the Chief Guest; Ms. Olee Bora, General Manager, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi), as the Guest of Honour; and Prof. Utpal Sarma, Registrar, Gauhati University. Representatives from participating industries, University officials, faculty members, and a large number of job aspirants were also present.
A major highlight of the first-ever Job Fair was the participation of 65 companies both online and offline and organisations representing diverse sectors, including banking and financial services, information technology, healthcare, telecommunications, insurance, education, and allied industries. Prominent recruiters included HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra, Paytm, Reliance Jio, and Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance, among several others.
The Fair witnessed an encouraging response from job seekers, with 392 candidates registering in advance and around 150 candidates participating through on-the-spot registration, taking the overall participation to approximately 600 candidates. Recruiters conducted various stages of the selection process on campus, including résumé screening, aptitude and skill assessments, group discussions, and personal interviews, enabling candidates to directly interact with prospective employers and explore employment opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samir Sarkar emphasised that the responsibility of a modern university extends beyond imparting academic degrees. Universities must also create meaningful pathways through which students and alumni can translate their education, knowledge, and skills into sustainable careers and professional opportunities.
The Job Fair was also envisaged as a platform for strengthening Gauhati University’s engagement with industry and gaining valuable insights into contemporary workforce requirements. Such interactions are expected to contribute towards greater alignment between academic programmes, skill-development initiatives, and evolving industry expectations.
The University expressed its sincere appreciation to all participating companies, industry representatives, distinguished guests, members of the organising committees, faculty members, officials, volunteers, and candidates whose enthusiastic participation contributed to the successful organisation of this landmark event.
The successful conduct of Gauhati University’s first-ever Job Fair marks the beginning of a significant institutional initiative towards building a stronger ecosystem for career development, industry collaboration, employability enhancement, and employment generation at the University.
