Five injured as speeding truck runs amok in Dima Hasao; four critical

Haflong, August 10: Five people were injured, four of them critically, after a speeding truck allegedly went on a rampage at different locations in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Monday.

According to police sources, the truck bearing registration number HR-56-C-7625 was travelling from Delhi towards Harangajao when it allegedly knocked down two persons at Langting. The truck later hit three students at Maibang.

The truck, allegedly being driven in a reckless manner, also rammed into several vehicles parked along the roadside before continuing towards Haflong, police said.

Of the five injured persons, four sustained serious injuries. Two of them were referred to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment, while the other two were shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Following the incidents, Dima Hasao Police launched a search for the truck. After covering nearly 94 km and passing through three police station areas, the vehicle was intercepted at Jatinga.

The driver, identified as Gulshan, was taken into police custody. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
