Educational materials for flood-affected students of Sivasagar-Charaideo from Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, North-East

 

Guwahati, 24th August: A team of the Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, North-East will leave for Sivasagar tomorrow for the free distribution of educational materials among flood-affected students. A meeting was organized today at 3 pm by the Guild to seek suggestions regarding the proper distribution of the educational materials collected through public donations. The meeting was held at the premises of Kuber Book Stall on College Hostel Road in the city, where the Governor of Chhattisgarh, Ramen Deka, participated as the chief guest along with all the donors.

Flagging off the relief mission, Governor Deka said that the floods this time have severely affected Upper Assam. The economic and educational infrastructure in Sivasagar-Charaideo and various other places has been destroyed. At such a time extending a helping hand to the flood-affected is extremely necessary. Along with various other organizations, the Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, North-East has also extended help and set an example of humanity. He further said that development must always be sustainable. If there is no balance between nature and development disasters are inevitable.

Present at the function were eminent writer-publisher Dr. Dayananda Pathak, Chief Trustee of Dr. Bhavendra Nath Saikia Child Welfare Trust, Aarohan, Preeti Saikia, Chief Advisor of Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, North-East, Ajit Kumar Barman and other office bearers of the Guild. It is to be noted that in the first phase, school bags, umbrellas, sandals, notebooks, books and various other educational materials will be distributed among about five thousand flood-affected students of Sivasagar-Charaideo. These materials have been provided by the Federation of Publishers and Book Sellers, New Delhi, Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, Kolkata, Federation of Education of India, various publishers and sellers from the North Eastern states, MBD Group of Publications, Dr. Bhavendranath Saikia Child Welfare Trust 'Aarohan', as well as various book publishers and sellers and individuals from New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jalandhar, Patna, Meerut, and Mumbai.

In this regard, the Secretary of the Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, North-East, and eminent publisher Dhiraj Goswami said - "Various publishers-sellers, organizations from across India as well as individuals have extended their helping hand. People have donated with trust, ranging from one hundred rupees to one-two lakh rupees. Therefore, through this meeting today, we are making this public and expressing our gratitude to all concerned." He also stated that the relief process will continue in the subsequent phases.
